Nothern Savonia - Pohjois-Savo

Nothern Savonia is located at the heart of the Finnish lake district and the largest lake in Finland - lake Saimaa, is located here. Magnifisient landscape and nature, a wide range of possibilities for outdoor activities and historical sites can be found here.

The major towns of the region are Kuopio, Varkaus and Iisalmi. Kuopio is known as the cultural center of Eastern Finland, famous for it's dance and musical events. The towns cultural life is active and the city hosts a number of festivals and marathons, for example, ANTI-Contemporary Art Festival, Kuopio Dance Festival, and Kuopio Wine Festival. At Varkaus you can visit the Komminselän Silta bridge, Väinölä Arts Center, Observatory of Härkämäki and go to the Vattuvuori Ski Center in winter time; Iisalmi is famous for its Lutheran churches and the world's smallest restaurant Kuappi, beer museum "Olvi Oluthalli", the Orthodox Church of St. the prophet Elijah, an exhibition of ruined churches of Karelia.
